Featured Article: The Power of Words
Referenced scripture: Proverbs 13:3

"He who guards his mouth preserves his life..."
A question I must ask myself regularly is, "Do I speak positively or negatively in the world around me?" If I speak positively I know that God's word guarantees me that I'm speaking life into any situation. Therefore, I must constantly check my thoughts and actions and determine if they line up with God's word. If I find that my attitude is generally negative about life, the consequences can only be negative. Not only does this have an affect on my perception about life, but it can also affect those around me. If I speak negatively about my spouse how does it affect him? More than likely negative words will adversely affect his mood.

Does this mean my words are so powerful that they can activate forces in either Heaven or Hell? I believe so. Our emotions and feelings are tied into our spiritual being and if one emotion is hit with a bad thought or word the spirit is naturally going to be negatively affected. Do I want Heaven activated in my life or do I want to bring all hell into my life and home? I certainly want Heaven in my life and home. The choice is mine.

God's word tells us in Deuteronomy 30:19 "...I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life". Based on this verse, we know that God's will is for us to choose positive words that bring life into any given situation. If I am tempted to use negative words in my life I have the responsibility to cast down that temptation and replace the negativity with positive words. Following God's command to choose life ultimately brings blessings to us. If I honestly believe Jesus died to give me life and life more abundantly I have to confess that with my mouth and stop harping on the negative circumstances.

No matter what is going on in your life be determined to use words of wisdom that bring life. I'm determined to not waste my breath on speaking negatively. May God by His grace and mercy give us all the strength to speak Heavenly words in every situation!

--With love, Joan
